MID-CENTURY MADNESS IN ARIZONA

3 years ago I was living in Phoenix, AZ. It’s been on my mind a lot lately, as there’s certain things I miss about it. The beauty of the desert, the dry heat (10x better than TX humidity), 80 degree ‘winters’, the friends I made out there, and the incredible mid century architecture!  Needless to say, I’ve been reminiscing through old photos, and decided I’d share some with you.

Here’s some architectural photos I took out there; mainly of buildings from the 50s and early 60s, with a few older ones added for good measure. Do enjoy, and credit/link back if you repost.

MID-CENTURY MADNESS – MY VINTAGE LIVING ROOM

 This is another in progress home decor project. I’m one of those ‘more is more’ types, so to me the walls are naked. I want waaaay more wall art; like Buca di Bepo more. But so far I’m happy with how it’s turning out.

 Most of the pieces are from the 50s and early 60s, but some are later and some earlier. While the main colors are earth tones, neutrals, green, and red, some other colors are thrown in for good measure. I like to mix and match. Anything too perfect doesn’t feel like a home to me.  

  I scored this mid-century couch in Tacoma, WA ages ago for $200.00. Supposedly it’s a Danish designer piece and worth way more, but I’ve never looked into it. It was reupholstered at one point but still looks amazing, imo.

 The drapes are original vintage bark cloth, with a diamond/harlequin print. Very very 50s.

To the left – a gold floor lamp with a lantern look and butterflies on the shades.

 To the right – a triple tiered end table and lamp.

Sorry I was silent yesterday. Since I’m renewing my lease this month + have the COOLEST, most laid back landlady ever, I’ve decided to paint my apartment. For once where I live will actually feel like a home, and I’m super excited about that : ).

 There’s 7 rooms total in my place: 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1 living room, and one kitchen/dining room. I’ve decided each room will have a different color scheme/theme.  The living room has brick colored walls, and will be my mid-century modern room; in earth tones + reds, greens, and dark yellows. But the kitchen is bright pink!

 

I can’t wait till the job is done, so I can show you guys pics!

Paint all day, movies at home all night, Shen Yun tomorrow afternoon. Life is good.
